Extension, Kalupahana

A residential extension at Kalupahana — additions that respect the existing fabric of the house, extending its character into new space rather than disrupting it.

A family in Kalupahana commissioned IMARK RENDER to add a new bedroom wing and expanded living area to their existing home, which had been built over twenty years earlier. The design challenge was to avoid the jarring visual break between old and new that typifies many Sri Lankan residential extensions — achieved by matching the roof pitch, window proportions and external render finish of the original house while giving the new spaces their own carefully resolved interior character.
